5 Places to Eat Clean & Detox

The weekend has been full of sumptuous dinners and sinful indulgence. This week, it’s time to eat clean and healthy; time to compensate for all that junk food!

Here’s a list of bistros which provide healthy and nutritious meals to help you get back in shape.

They can all be found within the CBD!

1. QQ Rice

A franchise-chain established in Taiwan, QQ Rice’s main specialty is its rice roll. A typical roll comprises of 5 choices of fillings and mixed-grain rice, which comes in 6 different varieties for you to choose from. This cost about $4 to $4.40.

These rolls are packed full of fiber and enzymes, which aids digestion and reduce flatulence.

Their purple rice is a hit among the ladies due to its low calorie-count. Personally, I feel it’s the most flavourful among the 6 choices.

QQ Rice serves a wide selection of nutritious drinks too. Roselle tea, barley, mulberry juice and brown rice tea, among others.

The only downside is… many of their outlets are just small booths serving only take-away orders. You may want to reconsider this option if you prefer to dine in-house.

2. Shinkansen

Shinkansen (“bullet-train” in Japanese) provides “lunch on the fast track”, serving Japanese-style protein bowls with prices from $13.90.

They offer 6 signature protein bowls:

  • Omega-3 Donburi
  • Shin-Kobe
  • Okayama
  • Mie
  • Shin-Osaka
  • Nagano

Alternatively, you can also customise your own delicious bowl by choosing from their wide selection of base, protein and toppings.

I strongly recommend their yuzu honey roast chicken, salmon sashimi, onsen egg, buckwheat soba and whole grain miso honey mustard sauce.

Do visit their Raffles Place outlet located at the basement of Ocean Financial Centre! By day, it is the zen Shinkansen. By night (after 7pm), it doubles up as The Secret Mermaid bar for the work-weary professionals to unwind.

3. The Daily Cut

Serving nutritious and tasty high-protein lunch boxes from as low as $12, The Daily Cut is a hot favourite among gym enthusiasts and working professionals around the area.

There are 3 sizes (regular, large and beast) for you to select based on your dietary needs. The only difference between the 3 is the number of base proteins, which ranges from 1 to 3. They are balanced with 1 serving of complex carbohydrate and 3 toppings.

I strongly recommend topping up $1 for a base protein upgrade to their hot seller: sirloin steak. The best dollar ever spent!

High in minerals and vitamins, their brown rice and sweet potatoes are excellent carbohydrate choices. For toppings, sous vide egg, quinoa and edamame beans are my go-to choices.

They are also well-known for their wide selection of sauces. BBQ dressing is a safe and yummy choice, but if you’re feeling more adventurous, go for their raspberry vinaigrette sauce.

Previously known as Wheat Baukuchen, WHEAT caters low-calorie soba noodles and brown rice for the health conscious for as little as $8. Their dishes come with cute and funky names such as Penguin, Reindeer and Sea Gull.

The Sea Gull is especially popular among the weight-conscious ladies. It boasts a serving of ZERO-calorie shirataki noodles, broccoli, lean shredded chicken, and fresh salad lightly drizzled with sesame sauce.

Well, zero-calorie or not, my favourite is the Polar Bear rice.

Rest assured, it doesn’t contain any polar bear meat at all. Haha! It actually has a serving of mild, nutty flavoured brown rice, mouthwatering sautéed pork, egg and fresh salad.

5. Munch Saladsmith & Rotisserie

Munch offers yummylicious, natural and wholesome mains paired with salads.

They offer various combinations such as:

Mains + salads

John dory + 2 salads

Just salads

Thai salad

Mini mains

Mushroom marinara

Honey ham

I strongly recommend their tender and juicy roast chicken and salad set, even though it may look more “sinful” than the rest. Finger-licking good!
